7th Graders

What are your three greatest struggles as a 7th grader?

My first strugle is the drama. I hate the drama, I can't ever focus on schoolwork because I have too many thoughts about what one person might think of me, or say to me. It's dumb. =[

My seconds strugle, is not wanting to do my work. For some reason I just haven't cared & don't even do my homework. Especially math. & I think that I should do it. Well I don't think, I know I should do it, & then I think, well not a big deal, it's only one zero, then thinking about it, they add up. Real quick. So I need to find a way to help me remember my homework, & actually do it.

& my third strugle is worrying about my friends. I am always worried that someone is going to start something about me, & the fact that I don't really know who my true friends are. I can basically say I have about 3 people to count on. That's it. & I think that I should be able to trust more people then that, I mean this is like the hardest time ever for me, because who are my friends?! I don't know the friends that are gonna go around & talk bad about me behind my back. & that's bad.

So yeah, I'm done now[=

Hope you liked it.

Hello T.S.
Thank you for your post on the blog. I have a few responses that you might want to think about. First is your concern about the drama in the 7th grade. Some drama is “normal” at this age, but it is your choice whether or not to become involved or not. If your thoughts become involved too often, such as worrying about what other people “think about you,” then you
have allowed those people to control you. Those people have taken your power away from you. These words should upset you somewhat. TAKE YOUR POWER AND CONTROL BACK! If you’re unsure of how to do this, seek help from your parents or a counselor.

Your second struggle is with your academics, especially mathematics. You already have one way of
remembering to do your homework and that is your Portland Middle School agenda. Always write down your
assignments in your agenda in every subject throughout the school day.

One easy motivational study skill is doing homework for 30-45 minutes and then taking a 10-15 minute
break. Most students do homework just after school. Consider this homework skill after school until 2-3 subjects are complete. Try doing your math first. You’ll feel more motivated to do all other subjects if your math is completed. If you have a lot of homework,
continue your new skill after dinner until all homework is complete. Breaks during homework will motivate you and give your brain and body a rest.

Making and keeping friends is always a struggle for middle school students, but you wrote that you have 3 friends that you could “count on.” You are a lucky
young lady to have 3 friends! You probably have more friends than you know as well. Throughout your lifetime you’ll make and lose friends along the way, but you’ll learn from those experiences. In addition, you mentioned the “friends” that will talk behind your back. Real friends don’t talk behind your back. Read the section about power and control again please.

I hope these words have helped or made you at least ponder your thoughts somewhat about your greatest struggles you face in the 7th grade.
